it’s my anniversary!

On this day one year ago, I retired from swimming.

I had swum my last 1650 ever at NCAA’s in Purdue, Indiana, and wasso ready to be done.  I am dedicating this blog post to the year I’ve had since I hung up my suit.

It was shocking to me how easily my life went on without swimming.  I had expected there to be a gaping hole that I would always be searching to fill, especially in regards to the massive amounts of time I would have.  (Swimming took up literally 24 hours a week–imagine being a double-major, socially normal college student with only six days in your week.)  So what have I been busy doing with a 15% increase in my free time?

As you can see, I’ve had nothing short of a perfect year.  I’ve expanded my horizons with new activities, trying to live according to my favorite motto: “Life begins when you step out of your comfort zone.”  Swimming was a huge, demanding, important part of my life, but it’s over now, and it’s up to me to make the most of this new era.

So today, I am celebrating the anniversary of my retirement.  Happy 1-year, Jen!  I look forward to many more with just myself–the pool is not invited.
